What is the state of play of the distribution of Bitcoins (BTC) in the world?

The online community Pump Dumb Coin has published a graph that shows the distribution of the number of bitcoin (BTC) tokens in circulation as of August 21. The graph, which has been widely shared by members of the community on Twitter, subdivides this distribution into 12 categories, and shows that 41 million addresses in the world house a BTC wallet.

How many bitcoins are found in El Salvador?

A total of 3,219,371 addresses around the world host bitcoin wallets ranging from 0 to 0.00001 BTC. This corresponds to 7.48% of the total addresses in the world. Together, they contain 15.37 BTC.

According to details provided by the American presenter, Stacy Herbert, who praises President Bukele’s crypto policy, El Salvador is in the top 2,150 out of the 41 million existing addresses. According to data from last week, the country accumulates 2,381 bitcoins.

There are in the second category 7,998,082 addresses in the world with a wallet whose value is between 0.00001 BTC and 0.0001 BTC, which corresponds to 344.33 bitcoins. These addresses represent 18.59% of the total addresses.

In the third category, there are 10,601,068 addresses that have between 0.0001 BTC and 0.001 BTC in their wallets. This category has 4,105 BTC, or 24.64% of the total addresses.

The fourth category concerns wallet holders with a value between 0.001 BTC and 0.01 BTC. There are 10,579,052 addresses listed there, which together comprise 40,248 bitcoins, the equivalent of 24.59% of the total addresses.

The 7th, 8th, 9th, 10th and 11th categories are the most affluent. Respectively, they include holders of 1 to 10 BTC (747,047 addresses, for 1,878,540 BTC), holders of 10 to 100 BTC (134,087 addresses for 4,316,406 BTC), holders of 100 to 1,000 BTC (13,799 addresses for 3,876,557 BTC), holders of 1,000 to 10,000 BTC (2,051 addresses for 4,927 969 BTC) and holders of 10,000 to 100,000 BTC (94 addresses for 2,183,938 bitcoins).

The last category includes holders of wallets from 100,000 to 1,000,000 BTC. There are 5 of them in the world and together they own 780,741 bitcoins.

Of the 41 million addresses that hold BTC wallets, only 4,826 concentrate more than $10 million each. There are 65,121 addresses housing more than a million dollars, and more than 255,000 addresses with $100,000 in BTC each. El Salvador, which is the first country to have adopted BTC as legal tender, has 2,381 bitcoins.
