Bordeaux startup V8TE obtains a CNIL compliance certification

V8TE offers the possibility of conducting a completely transparent and secure online voting, its unique technology has obtained the highest degree of validation by the CNIL.

Towards a new era for digital voting

Debates around digital voting rage at every election. In the United States, this is already a reality thanks to specialized machines. However, this does not prevent some voters from challenging the elections for lack of transparency. Our dedicated article on blockchain and online voting.

In France, even if it is possible for French people abroad to vote online for legislative elections, there are many technical problems during each election and participation in these elections generally remains low.

V8te has therefore developed a technology that makes it possible to organize elections at low costs and 100% online thanks to the Ethereum blockchain. Its technology can be adapted to the needs of an election commissioned by a company, an association or, for example, during a company referendum.

There are national and international competitors operating in the same field. However, V8TE is the first company in France to meet the Level 3 security objectives, the highest level, for internet voting systems.

« We are the first to be recognized as level three using the blockchain tool. This gives us additional arguments in the face of competition, because the agility and sincerity of the vote are guaranteed. The heart of our patented solution since 2020 is to combine a secure vote with a transparent and digital ballot box. Everyone can check that their report card has been taken into account and has not been modified“, hammers Guillaume Odriosolo, the founder of V8te incubated by Unitec and then accompanied for a few months by the Village by CA Aquitaine.

The advantages of a digital vote

The first advantage of this new type of voting is the considerable economic gain. Indeed, there is no longer any need to print tens of thousands, or even millions, of ballots, to block public and private centers as well as staff to organize these elections. In addition, we save considerable time for voters and organizers. The participation rate is highly likely to be higher, because many people will find this system faster and more efficient. However, it is likely that a certain older or less digitally interested audience will need physical help during the first digital votes. Digital voting thanks to the blockchain had already been considered in the Philippines.

Lately, digital voting is much more secure, more errors possible. In addition, verification using blockchain technology is available to everyone.

For this, several essential steps are missing. First of all, regulation. Current laws do not allow this type of voting to be introduced in France. However, tests and votes for private or public organizations on a smaller scale are good ways to test and get digital voting approved.

Then there is a lack of a decentralized digital identity for each citizen, this step will be much more difficult, but many countries are working to implement this type of tool. The European Union is also working on a wallet citizen where we can collect all our personal data without sharing access to it.

« Political elections are a market that I know well, but it’s too early because there is no legal framework both for holding elections and for access to data. On the other hand, on a personal note, I think that this is a very noble subject and that we must say that we are technically ready!

In ten or fifteen years, I am convinced that citizens’ consultations at national and European level will be possible, but this is not a priority today. The degree of maturity of electronic voting is much higher in associations and among private actors than in local authorities. ” Adds Guillaume Odriosolo on this subject.

This accreditation is the perfect example that a collaboration between public services and innovative companies in the web 3.0 will allow our economy and our lifestyles to benefit from the new technological advances of the blockchain.
